POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Virtual Design & Construction Intern is appointed by and directly responsible to the Virtual Design & Construction Manager. Delegated authority is commensurate with the responsibilities assigned to this function.

Position requires excellent communication skills, strong technical skills, ability to train others on systems and processes and technical writing skills. Must produce accurate and timely work, can function smoothly in a self-directed environment or work within a team, provide support to the entire company with ongoing administration and support, display professional appearance and uphold ethical standards outlined by Meyer Najem Handbook.

Primary Tasks:

Meyer Najem utilizes 3D Modeling / BIM / VDC for the following key functions:

  • Design Phase:
    • Existing conditions modeling
    • Cost estimating and quantity survey
    • Schedule and phase planning (4D modeling)
    • Design review and feedback
    • Design standards and Critical Success Factors
    • Modular construction initiatives
    • Marketing and business development efforts
    • Safety planning
    • Renderings and customer focused presentation materials
    • Document readiness review
  • Construction Phase:
    • Utility coordination
    • MEP systems coordination
    • Virtual mock-ups
    • Equipment delivery pathways
    • Site utilization planning
    • Crane and equipment utilization
    • Record modeling
  • Leadership in the initiatives outlined above
  • Develop, manipulate, and maintain 3D models for specific projects for use during preconstruction and construction
  • Develop and execute Project Specific BIM plans
  • Assist team members with continually evolving customer and project specific needs
  • Support operations, estimating, marketing, business development, quality control and safety initiatives
  • Leverage software and technology to support estimating and operations
  • Possess understanding of general construction practices and techniques
  • Develop and maintain content catalogs and libraries for 3D modeling purposes
  • Continuing education in marketplace trends and technology advances

  • Ensure compliance with MNI safety standards
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with the MNI Mission Statement

Communications:

  • Promote MNI to new and existing customers
  • Demonstrate and encourage professionalism while representing the firm

Job Environment:

Describe portions of this job that are necessary under normal working conditions for which you should be required to perform.

  • Work in office at a desk, computer and/or conference room
  • Possible overnight travel

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit Suite, Navisworks, AutoCAD and Bluebeam is required
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office is required
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to work well as a part of a team and independently
